Is it your scalp, or is it your follicles? BOTH need care. If your scalp has an infection or a condition of chronic inflammation, then your follicles cannot be provided with the environment they need to grow healthy hair.
If your follicles are being choked by DHT, then they will shrink, weaken and eventually fall away.
If you suffer from AGA (androgenetic alopecia) or are genetically disposed to it, 3 areas need to be addressed in order for your scalp and follicles to maintain and/or regain their health.
Blocked hair follicles
Nutrient supply needed for growth
Conversion of testosterone to DHT
Does minoxidil block DHT?
Currently, there are only 2 FDA-approved treatments for hair loss in North America. While marketed under specific brand names, each one works to treat hair loss. Originally designed to combat high blood pressure, minoxidil comes as a topical foam. It is said to enlarge the hair follicles, increasing circulation and extending the growing phase of new hairs.
Circulation is important to transport nutrients to various cells, however, minoxidil doesn’t address the hormonal causes of hair loss - which includes the conversion of testosterone into DHT. This eventually chokes the follicles, weakening and thinning each hair strand. Adding to that, its alcohol base depletes hydration, causing many to report unbearable itching.
Secondly, drugs like finasteride work to block DHT at the source by inhibiting the enzyme (5-ar) responsible for converting testosterone into DHT. Without DHT, the follicles can continue through their growth phase.
Sounds good, right? Except that drugs will not add nutrients to the follicles. Drugs also come with often-reported side effects that are not at all desirable!
What a scalp needs to grow healthy hair
Preventing hair loss and promoting hair growth requires 3 things:
1. Prevent the conversion of testosterone into DHT
2. Block DHT from attaching to the follicles
3. Supply enough nutrients to the follicle for hair regrowth
When testosterone connects to the follicles of those genetically disposed to MPB (male or female pattern baldness), the hair follicles increase their production of the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase (5-ar). In turn, this converts testosterone into a hormone called DHT. Once exposed to DHT, the follicles prematurely enter the resting stage and begin to weaken and shrink. At the same time, vital circulation is reduced.
Over time, the follicle structure becomes so withered and shallow that the scalp can no longer sustain hair growth. With the hair growth cycle altered, the follicles begin to spend more time in the resting phase and less in the growing phase. Hair continues to fall out at the normal rate, but it is not replaced. The atrophied follicles become dormant. They are not believed to be dead, but rather revival is possible with proper stimulation.
HAIRMETTO® vs minoxodil
HAIRMETTO® is a healthy alternative to minoxidil that no drug can match. The ingredients in HAIRMETTO® Topical Saw Palmetto Oil work on your scalp to:
1. Prevent the conversion of testosterone into DHT. This leaves more free testosterone to roam, which helps with libido and erectile dysfunction in men.
2. Block DHT from attaching to the follicles. Without the conversion of testosterone, there is less DHT to get its grip on the hair root.
3. Supply the follicles with vital nutrients like essential fatty acids, antioxidants, Omegas, vitamins and minerals. This ensures the cells responsible for maintaining the hair growth phase are healthy. Healthy hair will grow from a healthy follicle.
Saw Palmetto, Pumpkin Seed, and Stinging nettle – all synthetic-free botanicals - work to inhibit DHT from binding to the follicle. They inhibit the enzyme 5-ar from converting testosterone into DHT. They supply the follicles with copious amounts of nutrients and essential fatty acids – all the while supplying the scalp with anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial protection to enable the best possible environment for healthy hair growth to continue. And zero drug-related side effects!
